About this position
The Department of Materials Science at KTH Royal Institute of Technology is offering a postdoctoral position in X-ray and neutron characterization of metals for additive manufacturing (AM). The project focuses on in-situ and ex-situ synchrotron and neutron studies of metallic materials processed by laser- and electron-beam-based techniques, with particular emphasis on AM, welding, and heat treatment.
The work is centered on the custom-built experimental environment at the Swedish beamline at PETRA III, beamline P21.2, where electron-beam and laser processing can be studied in real time under controlled conditions. The project combines advanced in-situ experiments with ex-situ analyses to better understand how processing conditions affect microstructure evolution and mechanical properties in metallic materials.
This position is highly relevant for researchers interested in advanced characterization, beamline-based experiments, additive manufacturing, welding metallurgy, and the development of sustainable materials and processing solutions. The research contributes to circular material flows, reduced scrap, and greater use of recycled raw materials, with applications in manufacturing and energy-producing sectors.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree or equivalent foreign degree in materials science or a closely related area by the time the employment decision is made.
