About this position
Postdoc in Cell Biology / Biochemistry in the Laboratory of Metabolic Quality Control at the International Institute of Molecular Mechanisms and Machines (IMol), Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Poland.
This postdoctoral opening is hosted by the group of Dr Karolina Szczepanowska and focuses on understanding how cells reshape metabolism under disease-associated stress, with special emphasis on mitochondrial dysfunction. The project investigates the role of boosted proline biosynthesis in mammalian cells with impaired mitochondrial function and aims to uncover fundamental mechanisms of the cellular response to metabolic stress. The research is highly relevant to the biology of mitochondrial diseases and may contribute to future therapeutic strategies.
The successful candidate will use cutting-edge approaches in proteomics, biochemistry, molecular biology, and tailored cell culture models relevant to neuronal and muscle biology. The work involves planning and performing experiments, maintaining detailed experimental records, analyzing and interpreting data, presenting findings at meetings and conferences, and preparing manuscripts for publication. The lab offers an opportunity to develop advanced experimental skills in a young, collaborative, and dynamic scientific environment.
Funding and conditions: the position is full-time and temporary, with a start date as soon as possible. The post includes an approximate salary of 6,000 net/month, a 6-month trial period, medical care package, social benefits, and flexible working hours. The project is part of the SonataBis scheme and is financed by the National Science Center, not by an EU research framework programme.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field. Strong knowledge of cell biology and biochemistry is required, together with previous hands-on laboratory training in one of these areas. Good English and communication skills are essential; experience with mammalian cell culture and cell imaging is beneficial but not compulsory.
How to apply: prepare a cover letter, CV, list of publications, and reference contacts. Submit the application via the online form before 15 November 2026. The position is based in Warsaw, Poland, at IMol, part of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
