About this position
Postdoc in Computational Systems Biology and Metabolic Modeling at the Centre for Laboratory Medicine, University Hospital Bern (Inselspital), Switzerland.
This postdoctoral opening is part of an SNSF-funded project on human lipid metabolism in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). The research combines computational systems biology, statistical modelling, machine learning, and in silico metabolic modelling to study tissue-specific metabolism, inter-organ metabolic interactions, and nutrient uptake, transformation, and release.
The project integrates clinical data with experimental models and uses multiple data modalities, including transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic/lipidomic, spatial molecular imaging, biochemical and molecular data, and experimental metabolic flux data. The successful candidate will develop and apply mathematical and statistical models for complex multimodal datasets, reconstruct tissue-specific metabolic networks, and validate predictions with experimental evidence.
Eligibility highlights include a PhD or equivalent in computational biology, systems biology, applied mathematics, biochemical engineering, or a related field; strong experience in mathematical/statistical modelling and machine learning; and demonstrated work in constraint-based, genome-scale, kinetic, flux, or other metabolic modelling approaches. Proficiency in R, Python, or MATLAB is required. Experience with mass spectrometry, spatial omics, molecular imaging, or tissue imaging is considered an asset.
The position is temporary, full-time (100%), and starts on 1 October 2026 or by agreement. The posting does not mention a deadline, stipend amount, or tuition waiver. Applications should be submitted via the employer’s online application portal.
Contact person: Prof. Mojgan Masoodi, Head of Research.
