About this position

Utrecht University is advertising a Postdoc in Developmental Psychology in the Netherlands, based in the Developmental Psychology Program and linked to the transdisciplinary FUTUREPROOF team. The project is funded by an NWO Open Competition Large grant and focuses on climate change education, science communication, and youth-oriented approaches to helping young people imagine desirable futures and translate those visions into concrete actions.

The research aims to move beyond threat-based climate education by integrating realistic climate information with hope and agency. The postdoc will help co-design, prepare, and coordinate research; write peer-reviewed publications; and disseminate findings to educational and communication professionals. The work sits at the intersection of psychology, education, and communication science, and uses a mixed-methods approach that may include participatory, co-creative, and experimental methods.

Eligibility highlights include a PhD in psychology, education, communication, prevention science, or a related discipline; strong research skills; excellent English writing and presentation ability; and a collaborative, proactive working style. Dutch proficiency is preferred but not essential. Experience in climate education and communication is an advantage, not a requirement.

The position is a temporary postdoc role with a 1-year contract and the possibility of extension for another 18 months. Salary is listed at €4,251–€4,925 gross per month (based on a 38-hour week), plus holiday pay, year-end bonus, pension, and other employment benefits. The preferred start date is 1 January 2027.

To apply, prepare a motivation letter, CV, and one publication you are especially proud of. Applications are submitted through the AcademicTransfer portal. If shortlisted, you will be asked for two recommendation letters. The deadline is 1 November 2026.
