About this position
The University Gustave Eiffel is offering a postdoctoral position in Economics within the FIIZU research project (Fiscalité, Innovation et Inégalités dans les Zones Urbaines), focused on the behavior of French companies regarding taxes.
The project investigates how tax reforms — including changes to corporate income tax and the removal of the CVAE — affect firms’ balance sheets, depending on firm size, sector, and location. A core objective is to understand whether tax changes are used to stimulate local innovation and employment or whether they instead reinforce rent-seeking dynamics. The research also aims to assess the economic resilience of territories in the face of fiscal reforms.
The successful candidate will work with large-scale, exhaustive matched microdata over the period 2010–2023, including DGFiP, FARE, LIFI, and SIRENE datasets, hosted on the secure CASD server. The methodological focus includes causal inference, microeconometrics, structural econometrics, and advanced classification or machine learning approaches to identify behavioral signatures of firms.
This is a full-time temporary research position of 35 hours per week, located in France at the University Gustave Eiffel in Champs-sur-Marne (Île-de-France). The contract is linked to the university’s researcher salary scale, with an estimated net monthly salary between 2300 and 2700 euros depending on experience.
Eligibility highlights include a PhD in economics or a closely related quantitative field, excellent empirical and programming skills in R and/or Python, experience with large administrative datasets, and strong French and English language skills. Knowledge of French tax data and the CASD environment is especially valued.
The application deadline is 15 November 2026. Applications should be sent by email to [email protected]. Interviews are expected in late November or early December 2026, with a start date of 1 January 2027.
