About this position
Technische Universität Berlin and the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society are advertising a PostDoc position in experimental physics within the Ultrafast Nanoscience group of Prof. Ralph Ernstorfer and Dr. William Windsor.
The project focuses on femtosecond diffraction to study spin dynamics and lattice dynamics in antiferromagnets. The work will primarily use femtosecond electron diffraction at the Fritz Haber Institute and ultrafast X-ray diffraction at facilities such as BESSY II. This is a strong fit for candidates interested in condensed matter physics, ultrafast science, crystallography and diffraction methods, magnetism, and related optical/THz research.
Eligibility highlights include a completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) and a PhD in physics or a closely related field with excellent academic performance. Applicants should have extensive hands-on expertise in at least one of: ultrafast optics, magnetic diffraction (X-rays or neutrons), or ultrafast electron diffraction. Good German and excellent English communication skills are required; programming skills in Matlab or Python are desirable.
The position is a 2-year research associate postdoc appointment at salary grade 13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen, with full-time employment and possible part-time arrangements. The team is described as diverse, international, and English-speaking.
To apply, candidates should email a letter of motivation, CV, complete publication list, and two references to [email protected], quoting reference number II-139/26. The application deadline is 2026-05-08.
Funding details
Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
How to apply
Please submit your application including a cover letter, CV, academic transcripts, and contact information for two references. Applications should be sent via the online portal before the deadline.
