About this position
Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden is advertising a postdoctoral position in fluid-structure interaction for wind-powered ship propulsion at the Division of Marine Technology, Department of Mechanical Engineering.
The project focuses on understanding the coupled interaction between the flow around wind propulsion systems and the structural response of the system, and on developing advanced numerical methods for high-fidelity simulation. The work is strongly research-oriented and combines computational fluid dynamics, finite element methods, numerical modelling, scientific computing, and high-performance computing.
The successful candidate will independently develop numerical methods and codes, run and analyse coupled CFD/FEM simulations, collaborate with senior researchers and industrial partners, write technical reports and scientific papers, and contribute to supervision and teaching to some extent.
Eligibility highlights include a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, or a related field of fluid/structural dynamics; strong English communication skills; experience with CFD, Python, Matlab, and CAD/CAE tools; and the ability to work both independently and in a team. Recent PhD completion and experience with coupling algorithms for fluid-structure interaction are considered meritorious.
The position is a temporary full-time employment for two years with a possible one-year extension. The role requires physical presence throughout the employment. The deadline is 24 October 2026.
To apply, prepare the required PDF documents (CV with publications and teaching experience, plus a personal letter) and submit them through the online application form. Email applications and incomplete applications will not be considered.

Temporary full-time postdoctoral employment for two years with the possibility of a one-year extension. Standard employee benefits at Chalmers are offered; no stipend amount is stated.
What's required
A doctoral degree in mechanical engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, or a relevant field of fluid or structural dynamics, or an equivalent foreign degree, must be completed no later than the employment decision date. Strong written and verbal English skills are required, along with experience in computational fluid dynamics, computer programming (especially Python and Matlab), and CAD/CAE tools. The candidate should be able to work independently and collaboratively, be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and show good potential in research and education. Extra merit is given for a PhD obtained within the last three years, experience in scientific computing and high-performance computing, and experience with coupling algorithms for fluid-structure interaction solvers.
How to apply
Prepare the application in English as PDF files, including a comprehensive CV with publications and teaching experience plus a personal letter describing your background, research outcomes, and future goals. Submit via the application form on the vacancy page; incomplete applications and email submissions will not be considered.
