About this position

Postdoctoral position in greenhouse-gas monitoring at Aarhus University

The Department of Geoscience at Aarhus University is inviting applications for a postdoc in remote sensing and greenhouse-gas monitoring. The project, GHG-MONITOR, develops a drone-based method for monitoring greenhouse-gas emissions using a hyperspectral camera, with a current focus on methane.

The successful candidate will process and analyze hyperspectral observations, develop and validate methods for quantifying methane emissions, and explore how local drone data can be combined with satellite observations using machine learning and other modeling approaches. The role also includes field campaigns, collaboration with researchers and external partners, and contributions to publications, project reporting, and the project’s monitoring solution.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in remote sensing, computer science, atmospheric science, environmental science, geoscience, physics, engineering, or a related field; strong quantitative data analysis and scientific programming skills (preferably Python); and good English communication skills. Experience with hyperspectral imaging, atmospheric spectroscopy, greenhouse-gas measurements, UAV observations, radiative-transfer calculations, or atmospheric dispersion modeling is considered an advantage.

Location: Department of Geoscience, Aarhus University, Aarhus C, Denmark.

Funding and terms: full-time, fixed-term appointment for 19 months, from 1 February 2027 to 31 August 2028. Salary and employment conditions follow the Danish collective labor agreement.

Deadline: 1 November 2026 at 23:59 CET.

How to apply: Submit the application in English via Aarhus University’s recruitment system. Include a CV, degree certificate, publication list, future research plan, research activity information, teaching portfolio, and verified teaching experience if applicable.
