Utrecht University is seeking an ambitious researcher for a two-year postdoctoral position in the Youth in Changing Cultural Contexts programme, part of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. The research focuses on societal trends, social inequality, and the social and cultural environment of young people, with an emphasis on understanding how family, peers, school, and society interact to affect adolescent and young adult mental health, risk behaviours, social media use, and social participation.

The interdisciplinary team employs a variety of research methods, including large-scale longitudinal and internationally comparative surveys, qualitative interviews, and experimental studies. The postdoc will be responsible for conducting research within the programme, coordinating data collection, collaborating on publications, and translating research findings for diverse audiences. The position also includes a 20% teaching load, primarily supervising Bachelor’s and Master’s theses in Interdisciplinary Social Science.

Applicants should hold or be near completion of a PhD in behavioural or social science or a related field relevant to the programme. Required skills include expertise in qualitative and advanced quantitative research methods (such as longitudinal and multi-level analysis), experience in teaching academic courses, and fluency in academic English. A Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO) is required or must be obtained. Candidates should demonstrate scientific creativity and productivity through recent publications.

The position offers a gross monthly salary between €3,546 and €5,538 (full-time), with additional benefits such as 8% holiday pay, 8.3% year-end bonus, pension scheme, partially paid parental leave, and flexible employment terms. The contract is for one year with the possibility of extension to two years.
