About this position
ETH Zurich is advertising a Postdoc in Intravital Microscopy at the Department of Biology in Zurich, Switzerland. The project focuses on macrophage biology, tissue repair, and regenerative biology, using state-of-the-art intravital microscopy to study tissue-resident immune cells in vivo. The lab investigates how macrophages contribute to tissue homeostasis and repair, with particular attention to the mesothelium, serosal cavities, and the liver.
The work has a strong translational angle and is motivated by clinical challenges in abdominal surgery, including adhesion formation. The successful candidate will design and perform intravital microscopy experiments in mouse models, extend imaging approaches to additional organs, investigate macrophage dynamics and serosal repair mechanisms, and analyze imaging data using quantitative and computational approaches. The role also includes spectral flow cytometry, bioinformatics analysis of single-cell transcriptomics and spatial transcriptomics, presenting results at conferences, contributing to manuscripts and grant writing, and co-supervising MSc/PhD students.
Eligibility highlights include a PhD in Immunology, Cell Biology, or a related field; prior rodent-model experience; strong interest in tissue repair or regenerative biology; and an advantage for candidates with intravital/in vivo imaging, image analysis, R/Python, and first-author publication experience. Excellent English and a team-oriented mindset are required. The position is a fixed-term postdoc with an initial 1-year contract, renewable annually, and funding is secured for up to 4 years.
