About this position

Postdoc opening in lipidomics at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology, University of Copenhagen, focused on developing analytical methods to identify and quantify gangliosides, glucosylsphingosine, and related lipids, and applying them to Parkinson’s disease research.

The project is anchored in the Galvagnion group and carried out in collaboration with the Lipidomics Core Facility at the Danish Cancer Institute. The research uses LC-MS and mass spectrometry-based lipid analysis to study post-mortem brain samples, stem cell-derived brain cells from patients with Parkinson’s disease, and aggregates isolated from these samples.

Research interests include lipid metabolism, neurodegenerative diseases, brain pathology, analytical chemistry, and biological sample analysis. The lab works across protein and lipid biophysics, stem cell biology, biochemistry, proteomics, and neuroscience.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in analytical chemistry, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, molecular life sciences, or a related field; practical LC-MS experience; method development/optimization skills; experience with biological samples; strong English communication; and the ability to work independently in an interdisciplinary team.

Funding and terms: the position is a 3-year fixed-term postdoc funded by a Novo Nordisk Ascending Investigator grant. Salary starts at 39,900 DKK/month plus pension contribution, with possible supplement depending on qualifications.

Deadline: 15 November 2026, 23:59 CET. Apply online with a motivation letter, CV, PhD/MSc certificates (or supervisor statement if the PhD is not completed), and publication list.

What's required

Applicants must hold a PhD in analytical chemistry, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, molecular life sciences, or a related field. Required experience includes practical LC-MS-based analysis of small molecules such as lipids or metabolites, developing and/or optimizing LC-MS methods, independent planning/troubleshooting of analytical experiments, and working with biological samples and standard biochemical sample preparation. Candidates should have an interest in lipid metabolism and its role in neuroscience and neurodegenerative diseases, strong communication skills, ability to work in an interdisciplinary team, and excellent written and spoken English. Desirable experience includes lipidomics/MS-based lipid analysis, work with cells/tissues/subcellular fractions/complex biological samples, and knowledge of Parkinson’s disease, neurodegeneration, or protein amyloid/aggregation.

How to apply

Apply online in English via the university application portal. Submit a motivated letter, CV, certified/signed PhD and MSc certificates (or supervisor statement if PhD is unfinished), and a publication list in PDF format. Applications must be submitted by the deadline.
