About this position
Postdoc in Nutritional Metabolomics at Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden.
This postdoctoral position is hosted by the Division of Food and Nutrition Science in the Department of Life Sciences. The research environment is highly interdisciplinary, with strengths in nutritional and computational metabolomics, dietary biomarkers, micronutrient metal nutrition, nutritional immunology, marine food science, plant-based foods, food biotechnology, and sustainable food raw materials. The division has modern analytical infrastructure including chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry, an in vitro human cell laboratory, and a microbiology laboratory.
The project focuses on nutritional metabolomics and the analysis of food- and microbiota-derived small molecules in human biological samples. A key part of the work is the continued development, maintenance, and application of a quantitative LC-MS/MS method for short-chain fatty acids and other fermentation-derived metabolites in sample matrices such as plasma, faeces, saliva, and breast milk. The role involves both method development and large-scale sample analysis across ongoing research projects.
The successful applicant will hold a doctoral degree in food science, nutrition, bioanalytical chemistry, or an equivalent field. Strong English communication skills and documented experience in modern LC-MS method development and analysis are required. Experience with method validation, quality assurance, and hands-on mass spectrometry will strengthen the application. The position also includes expectations for teaching engagement at undergraduate or master’s level and some supervision of master’s and/or PhD students.
This is a temporary full-time postdoctoral appointment for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension. The appointment requires physical presence throughout the employment period. Chalmers emphasizes equality, diversity, and inclusion, and provides employee benefits as well as support such as Swedish language courses for international staff.
The application deadline is 2026-09-21. Applications must be submitted online in English as PDF files, including a comprehensive CV with publications and teaching experience, and a personal letter summarizing prior research, key outcomes, and future research goals. Incomplete applications and email submissions will not be considered.
