About this position

Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) is recruiting a postdoctoral scholar in the Organic Optoelectronics Unit (Kabe Unit) for research in perovskite and/or organic photovoltaic technologies. The position is centered on solar cell development, especially transparent or semi-transparent solar cells, with work spanning materials synthesis, thin-film processing, device fabrication, and performance/stability characterization.

The successful candidate will contribute to projects involving synthesis and characterization of transparent absorbers, charge-transport layers, and electrodes; lead-based 3D and 2D perovskites; lead-free and/or inorganic transparent perovskites; fabrication and characterization of complete transparent perovskite solar cells; and indoor/outdoor operational stability analysis. The role also includes preparing periodic progress reports.

Required background: a PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or Engineering, plus strong English writing and communication skills. Preferred experience includes transparent or semi-transparent solar cells, solution and/or vacuum thin-film deposition (spin-coating, thermal evaporation, sputtering, ALD), device fabrication and evaluation (J-V, EQE, stability testing), and advanced characterization methods such as UV-Vis, XPS, UPS, LEIPS, SEM, AFM, and XRD. A strong publication record is also preferred.

Compensation for the postdoctoral scholar is listed at 4.5M–5.9M yen per year. Benefits include relocation, housing and commuting allowances, annual paid leave, summer holidays, health insurance, pension insurance, worker’s accident compensation insurance, access to child development and daily life support resources, and a remote work system. The appointment is full-time, fixed-term for 1 year, with a 6-month probationary period and possible extension if the project continues.

Applications are accepted until the position is filled. To apply, combine your application documents into one Word or PDF file and email it to [email protected]. The application should include a CV and a summary of previous research; two reference letters will be required if shortlisted. Applicants should also indicate where they first saw the advertisement.
