About this position
IE University’s School of Politics, Economics & Global Affairs (SPEGA) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher for the ERC-funded project (DIS)EMPOWER, led by Professor Michael Becher. The project studies political economy, automation, AI, robots, labor politics, and how technological change affects worker power in the workplace and in democratic politics.
This is a four-year postdoctoral position with an option to extend by one year. The role is 100% research-focused and includes a competitive remuneration package and conference travel support. The position is based in Madrid, Spain, at IE University’s IE Tower.
The successful candidate will collaborate on the project’s empirical work packages, contribute to scientific articles, design and conduct original data collection through surveys, fieldwork, and elite interviews, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data. The postdoc will join the Political Science and International Relations group within IE SPEGA and may also develop independent research aligned with their own agenda.
Applicants should have a PhD in political science, political economy, industrial relations, sociology, or a related field, or show clear evidence that the PhD will be completed by the start date (no later than September 2027). Strong quantitative and methodological skills are essential, including analysis of observational and experimental data and data management. Fluency in English is required; experience with Qualtrics or Python is an asset.
To apply, submit a cover letter, CV, job market paper, and three confidential letters of recommendation. The application deadline is 2026-10-30. Questions can be directed to Michael Becher at [email protected].
