About this position
Postdoctoral position in quantum microwave-to-optics conversion at Institut Néel – CNRS within the superconducting quantum circuits group.
The project aims to develop a microwave-to-optical quantum interface for transferring quantum information between microwave and optical domains, enabling long-distance quantum communication and optically mediated entanglement between distant microwave qubits. The work sits at the intersection of physics, optomechanics, electromechanics, nanophotonics, superconducting quantum circuits, and silicon photonics.
The postdoc will lead the development and optimization of the optomechanical component of a release-free device based on co-localized photonic and phononic crystal modes, while collaborating on integration of the full microwave-optical system. Fabrication will use the cleanroom facilities of the Néel Institute with advanced nanofabrication techniques, and measurements will include cryogenic microwave and optical experiments in a dilution refrigerator.
The project is part of the French Quantum Plan and involves collaboration with MPQ in Paris and CEA-Leti. The position is for 2 years and offers a gross salary from 3,040€/month, depending on experience.
Eligibility highlights: experience in optical measurements is required, preferably in nanophotonics or optomechanics; experience with nanofabrication, cryogenic measurements, and finite-element simulations is an asset.
Deadline: Friday, November 20, 2026.
