About this position

Postdoctoral opening in Silviculture and Forest Ecology at the University of Freiburg (Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg), Germany.

The Chair of Silviculture invites applications for a 1.5-year postdoc linked to the Horizon Europe TRANSFORMIT project, which focuses on Integrated Forest Management (IFM) approaches across Europe. The work centers on analyzing repeated forest inventory data from IFM-practicing forest enterprises across multiple European countries and forest types, with attention to ecosystem service provision, forest resilience, adaptive capacity, and biodiversity outcomes.

Research tasks include: analyzing an assembled database of forest inventory data; summarizing best practices and suggesting silvicultural options for advancing IFM; contributing to educational modules for students and professionals; participating in related research projects; and working with an international network of research institutions and professional networks in forest sciences.

Ideal candidates should have a strong background in forest ecology, silviculture, forest inventory, or related fields, plus strong statistics and R skills. Experience with large datasets, project management, stakeholder liaison, supervision, and university teaching is desirable. Strong English is required; German is beneficial.

Funding is a salaried postdoc position at TV-L E13, 100% scientific salary. The position is initially limited to 1.5 years, with possible follow-on opportunities in the newly established Cluster of Excellence Future Forests.

Application deadline: 15 May 2026. Applicants should submit a single PDF with a motivation letter, CV, publication list, academic transcripts, and referee contacts by email.
