About this position
Postdoc opportunity at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in sustainability assessment, responsible innovation, and climate-resilient urban water systems.
This postdoctoral role is part of the EU-funded RESILIENT-FLOWS project and focuses on hybrid urban water innovations that combine nature-based solutions and conventional grey infrastructure. The research aims to support decision-making for utilities, planners, policymakers, and technology developers by examining the environmental, economic, and societal implications of emerging water system innovations.
The project has two connected research strands: (1) Value Sensitive Design (VSD) and stakeholder engagement, including interviews, participatory workshops, and coordination across multiple European pilot sites; and (2) ex-ante Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of selected case studies to evaluate environmental impacts of hybrid urban water infrastructure. The successful candidate will contribute to decision-support tools developed within the consortium and collaborate with academic and non-academic partners across Europe.
Eligibility highlights: PhD in Industrial Ecology, Sustainability Sciences, Technology Assessment, or a related field; strong LCA experience; experience with qualitative methods such as interviews and focus groups; interest in urban water systems and nature-based solutions; strong English communication and scientific writing skills; and the ability to work independently in interdisciplinary teams.
Funding and terms: 3-year temporary postdoc appointment, 36-40 hours per week, with salary and benefits under the Dutch Universities collective agreement. Salary range: €3706 - €5760. The position is based at TU Delft, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, in the Netherlands.
Application deadline: 30 October 2026. Apply online with a CV and motivational letter addressed to Mar Palmeros Parada.
