About this position
This postdoctoral position at Chalmers University of Technology offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative research in the sustainable fabrication of batteries. Based in the Division of Materials and Manufacture within the Department of Industrial and Materials Science, the project focuses on the design and synthesis of sustainable polymers to be used as binders for electrode processing in lithium ion and zinc ion batteries. The research aims to address critical challenges in binder development, impacting both the mechanical properties and long-term cycling performance of batteries, with a particular emphasis on silicon-based anodes and cathodes.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic, international team dedicated to advancing materials and manufacturing technologies with real-world impact and strong industry ties. The project is both fundamental and application-oriented, involving the synthesis and modification of binder systems and the development of new electrode manufacturing processes. The work is highly experimental and collaborative, engaging with researchers from academia and industry in a multidisciplinary environment.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Polymer Chemistry, Material Science, Organic Synthesis, Chemistry, or related fields, with strong English communication skills and hands-on experience in polymer synthesis, battery material synthesis, and cell fabrication. Additional expertise in binder development, lithium and zinc ion batteries, solvent-free manufacturing, dry electrode coating, and silicon electrodes is highly valued. The position is full-time for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension, and requires physical presence in Sweden. Chalmers offers comprehensive employee benefits, a supportive and inclusive work environment, and resources for international staff, including Swedish language courses.
The application deadline is January 30, 2026. For further details and to apply, visit the Chalmers University of Technology job portal. For specific inquiries, contact Associate Professor Jinhua Sun at [email protected].
