About this position

🌾 The Stomatal Biology group at the University of Bern is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for the project “Vein-stomatal signalling in grass leaf development”.

The project asks how stomata in grass leaves consistently form next to veins, and will investigate the developmental mechanisms behind this spatial coordination. The research is part of the Cereal Stem Cell Systems research unit and is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).

Research methods and interests include spatial genomics, cell biology, imaging, developmental genetics, biochemistry, plant molecular genetics, microscopy, plant signalling, protein biochemistry, and potentially single-cell/spatial transcriptomics.

Applicants should have a completed PhD in plant biology, developmental biology, molecular biology, or a related field, plus solid experience in plant molecular genetics, microscopy, and cell biology. Strong written and oral English is required, and experience with model grass species, plant signalling, protein biochemistry, or transcriptomics is considered an advantage.

The position is 100%, fixed-term for 2 years with possible extension, and is based at the Institute of Plant Sciences, University of Bern, Switzerland. Start date is flexible.

To apply, send a single PDF containing a motivation letter, CV, and the names of at least two referees to [email protected]. Applications are reviewed from 14 September 2026 until the position is filled.
