About this position

Chalmers University of Technology invites applications for a postdoctoral position focused on the efficient simulation of noisy quantum circuits. The successful candidate will join the QuantumStack project, a major initiative funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research and integrated with the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT). The overarching goal is to develop a full software stack for programming quantum computers, with a particular emphasis on scalable, high-fidelity simulations for superconducting quantum hardware.

The postdoc will co-design and implement advanced simulation algorithms for noisy quantum circuits, supporting integration with a 25-qubit chip and collaborating closely with physicists and engineers. The work will involve both analytical and numerical approaches, low-level hardware optimization (including SIMD, GPU, and FPGA), and a deep understanding of quantum simulation trade-offs. The position is based in the Division of Computer Networks and Systems within the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, a vibrant research environment with strong links to national and EU projects.

Applicants should have a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field, with strong programming skills (Python, C/C++), experience in GPU programming, and application performance profiling. Experience in quantum computing and FPGA development is highly desirable. The position is full-time for two years, offering a stimulating and supportive environment in Gothenburg, Sweden, with access to cutting-edge research facilities and collaboration opportunities.

Chalmers is committed to equality and diversity, with active initiatives to improve gender balance and foster an inclusive academic culture. The application process requires submission of a CV, personal letter, references, and certificates via the online application portal. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the deadline of May 18, 2026.

For further information, contact Prof. Pedro Trancoso ([email protected]) or Assoc. Prof. Mats Granath ([email protected]).
