About this position

ETH Zürich, a world-leading university in science and technology, is offering a postdoctoral position in high-voltage insulation systems within its High Voltage Laboratory. The research group focuses on understanding the effects of high electric field strengths and voltages, with a strong emphasis on experimental work. Researchers in the lab plan, design, construct, and automate novel setups and voltage/current sources to address key research questions, and analyze measured data using advanced theoretical models. The overarching goal is to advance the fundamental understanding of electrical insulation, particularly in the context of the ongoing transformation of the global energy system toward renewables and improved efficiency.

The successful candidate will work both experimentally and theoretically to investigate the aging of solid insulation under mixed-frequency medium-voltage stress, contributing to the development of novel engineering solutions for power transmission and distribution equipment. The team collaborates closely with leading manufacturers and is composed of researchers with interdisciplinary backgrounds. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, physics, or a related field, and have a strong academic record. Prior experience in high-voltage engineering, especially with solid insulation systems, and hands-on experimental work is required.
