About this position
The Rutgers Nanoscience and Advanced Materials Research Center (NAMC) is actively recruiting outstanding Postdoctoral Fellows and PhD students to join a dynamic, interdisciplinary team focused on the intersection of nanoscience, environmental health, and human disease. Directed by Professor Philip Demokritou, a recognized leader in environmental health nanoscience, NAMC offers a collaborative research environment embedded within the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences community and the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute (EOHSI), a global leader in environmental health research for over 40 years.
Research at NAMC centers on investigating how environmental nanoparticles—originating from sources such as wildfires, traffic emissions, and micro/nanoplastics—impact the development of major diseases. Current funded projects, supported by agencies including NIH/NIEHS, NIH/NHLBI, USDA, NSF, BARD, and UL Research Institutes, address health outcomes such as neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s), respiratory health impacts, gut and metabolic effects, and developmental/reproductive toxicity.
Fellows and students will lead transdisciplinary projects utilizing state-of-the-art cellular and animal models, including organ-on-a-chip platforms, to uncover the toxicological effects of emerging pollutants. The center provides access to world-class instrumentation for nanoparticle characterization and advanced experimental platforms for generating real-world environmental exposures, including traffic, wildfire, vaping, and nanoplastics.
Applicants should have a PhD (for postdoctoral positions) or be seeking a PhD (for student positions) in relevant fields such as environmental science, biology, chemistry, materials science, toxicology, or biomedical engineering. Experience with cellular and animal models, nanoparticle characterization, and interdisciplinary research is preferred. The research group values strong communication and teamwork skills. Funding is provided through major research grants, though specific stipend or tuition details are not listed.
To apply, candidates should send an email to [email protected] with their CV and a brief statement of research interests. For more information about NAMC’s research and recent publications, visit the provided links. This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading research center and contribute to advancing knowledge in environmental health, nanoscience, and disease mechanisms.
