About this position
The University of Vienna is advertising a University Assistant postdoctoral position at the Division of BioInvasions, Macroecology & Global Change in the Department of Botany and Biodiversity Research, Faculty of Life Sciences.
This is a three-year, full-time postdoctoral role focused on invasion biology, vegetation science, biodiversity change, macroecology, and global change science. The research aims to understand and predict biodiversity patterns and the drivers of change under past, current, and future conditions, with emphasis on biological invasions and large-scale macroecological patterns. The division also works with vegetation plot data and community datasets such as EVA and ReSurveyEurope.
The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent research portfolio, contribute to analyses and publications, help secure external funding, and participate in supervision/mentoring of students. Teaching duties are about 2 hours per week. Strong programming skills, preferably in R, and experience with advanced statistical modelling are important.
Eligibility highlights: PhD in biology or equivalent; experience in invasion science, vegetation science, global change science and/or macroecology; experience with biodiversity patterns across spatial and temporal scales; strong English communication skills, preferably German; teamwork, teaching, and project administration experience are valued. Experience with ERC or Horizon Europe grant applications is a plus.
Funding: The position is half funded by the University of Vienna and half funded by a FWF-DFG research project. The basic salary is EUR 5,014.30, with possible increases based on relevant experience.
