About this position
Cornell University is recruiting a full-time, in-person Postdoctoral Associate in the Equitable Agricultural Research (EQUAL) Lab within the School of Integrative Plant Science and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The position is based within commuting distance of Ithaca, New York, United States.
The postdoctoral researcher will study U.S. farmers’ perceptions, preferences, and adoption behaviors regarding novel biotechnology products. In the CROPPS project, the researcher will design, implement, and analyze statewide farmer surveys in New York and California using behavioral economics methods, including risk-perception measures, willingness-to-pay or willingness-to-accept experiments, experimental auctions, adoption preferences, and tradeoff analysis. In the CO-BREED project, the researcher will lead a nationwide survey examining motivations and mechanisms for organic farmer participation in participatory plant breeding and engagement with breeding programs.
The role involves research-method development, field research, quantitative data analysis, writing, and graduate-student support. Applicants must hold a PhD in behavioral economics, agricultural economics, or a related field and have experience with primary agricultural data, farmer surveys, quantitative econometrics, causal inference, and agricultural technology adoption. U.S. field travel and a valid unrestricted New York State driver’s license are required. Preferred experience includes game-based behavioral methods, grower-group engagement, interdisciplinary collaboration with biophysical scientists, and graduate-student mentoring.
The appointment is paid, with a CALS hiring range of $63,480–$65,000 and a broader listed pay range of $62,232–$88,745. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until a suitable candidate is identified. Apply through Academic Jobs Online with a short cover letter, CV, and contact details for three references.
