Dr. Harini Iyer’s lab in the Department of Biosciences is recruiting a postdoctoral research associate to study the interplay between the nervous and immune systems during development, homeostasis, and neurodegeneration, with a focus on microglia. The project uses zebrafish as a vertebrate model organism and includes live imaging, functional genomic screens, and questions in neuroimmunology, molecular biology, genetics, and neuroscience.

The role involves designing CRISPRs, generating CRISPR-Cas9 mutants in zebrafish, maintaining fish lines, performing PCR, DNA/RNA isolation and purification, cloning, documenting and analyzing data, mentoring junior team members, and contributing to publications, presentations, and proposal development.

Required qualification: a Ph.D. in Life Sciences or a related field. Preferred experience includes animal husbandry and tissue culture, plus strong knowledge of biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, and neuroscience. Strong communication, organization, time management, and collaborative skills are emphasized.

This is an on-site position in Houston, Texas. The position is funded by a grant and soft/restricted funds, and continued employment depends on funding renewal.
