About this position
Rutgers University’s Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research is seeking a postdoctoral associate to advance trustworthy artificial intelligence for biomedical informatics, scientific evidence synthesis, and health care. The role is connected to the Center for Biomedical Informatics and Health AI, an interdisciplinary initiative designed to strengthen Rutgers’ leadership in computational medicine and health AI.
The researcher will design AI-assisted systematic and living review workflows spanning information retrieval, screening, data extraction, and continuous updating. A major focus is developing and validating methods that determine whether cited publications substantiate scientific claims, from sentence- and paragraph-level statements to network representations of evidence.
The work will also examine the reliability of AI models in biomedical settings, including performance drift, calibration, uncertainty, explainability, and adaptation across data sources and changing practice. The postdoctoral associate may develop and evaluate machine learning, clinical natural language processing, large language model, and multimodal AI methods using biomedical and health care data.
Another core theme is human-AI collaboration. The researcher will study automation bias and the conditions under which people and AI systems jointly achieve better performance than either partner alone. The position combines independent research leadership with grant development, reproducible research software, peer-reviewed publication, and contributions to AI-focused training programs.
The appointee will help prepare NIH research proposals, generate preliminary data, coordinate interdisciplinary contributions, and identify additional research and training opportunities. They will also develop courses and workshops on AI-assisted systematic reviews, machine learning, and responsible AI, while mentoring doctoral students and junior researchers in study design, AI methods, research software, and scientific writing.
The research environment brings together biomedical informatics, bioinformatics, clinical informatics, clinical research informatics, public health informatics, and translational bioinformatics within Rutgers’ health AI community.
