About this position
Boston University’s Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine is recruiting a Postdoctoral Associate for the Erdogan Lab in the Department of Translational Dental Medicine. Based at the Boston University Medical Campus, the NIH-funded laboratory investigates how neuro-immune responses and interactions shape pain, infection, and tissue repair in barrier tissues of the oral cavity.
The research program operates at the interface of neurobiology, immunology, microbiology, oral biology, and translational dental medicine. The lab studies how sensory neurons respond to and interact with immune and microbial signals in dental and oral tissues, with the goal of informing minimally invasive therapies and improved pain-management strategies.
The postdoctoral researcher will design and lead independent and collaborative hypothesis-driven projects. Research activities include in vivo models of dental injury, infection, and inflammation; chemogenetic approaches; flow cytometry; advanced imaging; transcriptomics; spatial and systems-level profiling; and analysis of transcriptomic and microbiome datasets. The role provides an opportunity to take projects from experimental design through publication while contributing to mechanistic and translational research.
The Erdogan Lab is highly collaborative and maintains active partnerships with academic and medical institutions across Boston. Its research environment emphasizes scientific rigor, curiosity, open collaboration, and mentorship, with opportunities to mentor trainees and participate in a dynamic interdisciplinary team.

What's required
Applicants must hold a PhD, DDS/PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree in immunology, neuroscience, microbiology, oral biology, or a related discipline. They should be able to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrate a strong record of research productivity, and be interested in rigorous, creative, mechanistic, translational, cross-disciplinary research. Comfort with, or willingness to learn, in vivo biology and complex experimental systems is required. Preferred experience includes neuroimmunology or pain biology, host–microbe interactions or microbiome science, flow cytometry, advanced imaging, spatial biology, or transcriptomics. Candidates with DDS/DMD clinical training and substantial research experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
