About this position

Cornell University is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate for the Diel Laboratory in the Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, in Ithaca, New York, United States.

The successful candidate will work on a Cornell Future of American Agriculture Initiative-funded project developing next-generation diagnostics for pathogens affecting livestock. Research will include AmpliSeq-based multiplex assay development and bioinformatics pipelines for rapid pathogen detection and identification. Additional collaborative projects may involve viral pathogenesis, virus-host interactions, and vaccine development.

Applicants must hold a DVM or PhD. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in diagnostic assay development, next-generation sequencing, and bioinformatics pipeline development. The role requires independence, leadership, problem-solving, attention to detail, strong communication skills, and enthusiasm for integrated wet-lab and computational research.

The appointment is for one year, with options for renewal, and is expected to begin in November 2026. The salary is $63,480–$71,000, depending on qualifications and experience. Clinical sample handling requires pre-exposure rabies vaccination or documentation of current vaccination.
