About this position

The Department of Earth Sciences at the University at Buffalo is recruiting a Postdoctoral Associate in paleoclimate science, earth sciences, geochemistry, and related geoscience fields. The position is based in the Paleoclimate Dynamics Lab and supports two NSF-funded interdisciplinary projects focused on building an open science community for biomarker researchers and developing/using lake model emulators for paleoclimate interpretation.

The postdoc will work on open-source software workflows for biomarker data generation and geoscience process modeling, synthesize existing data for model calibration and database development, conduct field work, and help lead annual community workshops. The role also includes publishing peer-reviewed papers, presenting at conferences, mentoring students, and contributing to outreach and communication of research results.

Eligibility highlights: Ph.D. in earth sciences, (paleo)climate science, geochemistry, atmospheric sciences, or a related field by the time of appointment; demonstrated leadership in scientific publications; and strong scientific computing skills in R, Python, or a comparable language with reproducible analytical workflows. Preferred experience includes organic compounds and/or stable isotopes, geoscientific process models, Bayesian methods, machine learning, and documented reproducible workflows.

Funding: Full-time postdoctoral appointment with a salary range of $60,000. The posting does not mention tuition or fee waivers.

Application: Apply through UB Jobs only. Required materials include a cover letter and CV, and the system requests three references. The posting states that applications will begin to be reviewed on 2026-09-15 and that the position is open until filled.
