About this position

Postdoctoral Associate opportunity in plant genome engineering and plant innate immunity at the University of Maryland, College Park, in the Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture and the Qi lab led by Dr. Yiping Qi.

The lab focuses on studying plant immunity and developing plant genome engineering and delivery tools for basic and applied research. The postdoc will conduct mechanistic investigations of non-host immunity in plants, including molecular characterization of candidate genes involved in non-host immunity in Arabidopsis and rice. The role includes independent and collaborative research, hypothesis development, literature review, pilot data collection, report writing, supervision of undergraduate and graduate researchers, data quality control, statistical analysis, and preparation of presentations and publications.

Research keywords: plant molecular biology, plant-microbe interactions, bioinformatics, genomics, protein annotation, functional sequence comparison, molecular cloning, plant tissue culture, confocal imaging, protein evolution, and genome analysis.

Eligibility: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in plant molecular biology, plant science, horticulture, or agricultural science and be less than two years past the Ph.D. Preferred candidates have first-author or co-first-author publications in major plant journals and experience with molecular biology, bioinformatics, cloning, and plant experimental systems.

Funding: Full-time postdoctoral associate role with a salary range of $50,000-$60,000 and regular faculty benefits.

Application: Submit a cover letter, CV, one representative first-author publication, and contacts for three references. Best consideration date is 2026-10-15; posting close date is 2026-10-23.
