About this position
The TomatoLab at the University of Maryland, College Park is seeking a postdoctoral associate to lead a funded project on a novel gene controlling flowering time in tomato.
The researcher will characterize the gene using genetic mapping approaches and validate its function through reverse genetics, including CRISPR-based mutagenesis. The project includes functional assays, gene-expression profiling, and phenotypic characterization of the mutant and other genes associated with flowering time.
The postdoctoral associate will lead day-to-day experimental workflows, analyze data, manage project timelines, and coordinate a collaborative effort between the UMD TomatoLab and USDA Agricultural Research Service scientists. The role also involves integrating research resources, contributing to peer-reviewed publications, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and presenting findings at national and international conferences.
This is a plant genetics and functional genomics research environment focused on tomato and related solanaceous crop models within the university’s Plant Science and Landscape Architecture department.
