About this position

Postdoctoral Fellow in Systems Neuroscience at Vanderbilt University (Department of Psychology).

The Bastos Lab is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to study the circuit mechanisms of predictive processing using next-generation high-density electrophysiology in non-human primates. The project focuses on how predictions and prediction errors are represented and routed across cortical layers, cortical areas, and subcortical structures, including thalamus, basal ganglia, and hippocampus.

The lab develops MaDeLaNe (Multi-Area, high-Density, Laminar Neurophysiology) approaches and is extending them to large-scale Deep Array technology (128 to 512–1024+ channels). The successful candidate will help interrogate distributed cortical–subcortical circuits at high spatial and temporal resolution, with opportunities to combine behaving-macaque electrophysiology, neural population analysis, computational modeling, and neurotechnology development.

Applicants should hold a PhD in neuroscience, computational neuroscience, neuroengineering, cognitive neuroscience, or a related field. Helpful experience includes electrophysiology, neural data analysis, computational modeling, signal processing, Python/MATLAB, or neurotechnology. Prior non-human-primate experience is beneficial but not required. Interest in ambitious experimental neuroscience and agentic AI for computational data analysis is welcomed.

How to apply: Email a CV, brief statement of research interests, and reference contacts to André M. Bastos at [email protected]. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
