About this position

Stockholm University is advertising a 2-year postdoctoral fellow position in brain morphology and behaviour evolution at the Department of Zoology in Sweden.

The project investigates the evolutionary associations between brain morphology variation and behavioural variation at the within-species level, using established guppy (Poecilia reticulata) artificial selection lines. The work sits at the intersection of evolutionary biology, animal behaviour, zoology, and cognitive evolution, with possible links to neuroscience and fish ecology.

The lab has substantial infrastructure for experiments, including aquaria and dedicated assay rooms, and supports studies of cognitive abilities, mate choice, predator-prey interactions, collective motion, migration behaviour, physiology, and brain/body morphology. Molecular tools are also available for studying genomic mechanisms behind phenotypic variation.

The postdoc will design and run experiments, analyze and interpret data, publish scientific papers, present at international conferences, and contribute to the research environment and supervision of students and PhD candidates.

Eligibility requires a PhD or equivalent relevant degree completed by the time of appointment. A recent PhD is advantageous, and special circumstances may be considered. Strong interest in cognitive evolution and experience in animal behaviour experiments are important; experience with fish ecology and dissection is welcome.

This is a full-time paid employment position for 2 to 3 years, with a start date as soon as possible or by agreement. Applications must be submitted through Stockholm University’s recruitment system by the deadline.
