About this position
The National Research Council Canada is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow for a two-year project in Boucherville, Quebec, focused on centrifugal microfluidic immune monitoring and remote precision diagnostics.
The project will develop and experimentally validate an autonomous centrifugal microfluidic platform that integrates immune stimulation, sample processing, and multiplex cytokine detection in a single cartridge. The technology is intended for applications including long-duration spaceflight, astronaut health, remote and Northern healthcare, critical care, and pandemic preparedness.
Based within NRC’s Medical Devices–Precision Diagnostics Team, the fellow will lead experimental design, optimization, subsystem integration, analytical validation, data analysis, interpretation, manuscript preparation, and dissemination. Training will span microfluidic system design, centrifugal automation, immunology, multiplex immunoassay development, prototype integration, analytical performance evaluation, project management, and translational medical-device development. Collaboration with the Laboratory of Translational Research – Stress & Immunity at LMU Hospital in Munich will provide international exposure and expertise in translational immunology.
Applicants need a PhD in biomedical engineering, immunology, microbiology, biotechnology, microfluidics, materials science, experimental medicine, analytical chemistry, or a related field. They must meet at least four of the specified experience criteria, including immune or biochemical assays, cytokine detection, immunoassay optimization, whole-blood or primary-cell work, fluorescence-based analysis, microfluidics or point-of-care diagnostics, independent experimental research, and scientific communication. The PhD must have been obtained within the past three years or be completed within six months of appointment.
The position is full-time and requires physical presence at NRC Boucherville. Salary is CAD 83,985–116,641, with benefits and a travel fund. Submit a resume, one-page statement of interest, PhD transcript, and publication list by January 7, 2027.
