About this position
Boston University / Boston Medical Center is advertising a postdoctoral fellow position on a collaborative project with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VITAL ARC). The project focuses on clinical AI for traumatic brain injury, combining electronic health record (EHR) data, neuroimaging, and trauma registry data to identify data-driven TBI subphenotypes and predict outcomes.
The fellow will work at BU/BMC and also help replicate the methods in a parallel VA cohort built from the VA Corporate Data Warehouse, providing national external validation. The role is mentored by Charlene Ong, MD, MPHS (Neurology, BMC/BU), Yannis Paschalidis, PhD (BU Engineering/CDS), and the VA team including Nhan Do and Rafael Fricks.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a PhD in biomedical engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, systems engineering, biostatistics, data science, epidemiology, or a related field. MD/PhD candidates are welcome, but MD-only candidates are not eligible. U.S. citizenship is required because the position is funded through the VA. Experience with machine learning, clinical/EHR data, or medical imaging is preferred, and interest in critical care or neurology is a plus.
Funding: the appointment is for two years and is funded through the VA, with a WOC appointment arranged after hire.
How to apply: send a CV, a brief statement of interest, and the names of two references to Charlene Ong at [email protected].
