About this position

William & Mary’s Department of Computer Science invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow in the Robust and Adaptive Intelligence Laboratory, based at the university’s Integrated Science Center in Virginia, United States. The appointment is expected to begin September 10, 2026.

The researcher will contribute to two connected areas: AI-based routing under uncertainty, including dynamic dispatch and stochastic or online vehicle routing at scale; and explainability for AI-based sequential decision-making, combining formal logic, large language models, and planning to make complex-system decisions understandable, auditable, and trustworthy. The fellow will publish in leading artificial intelligence, machine learning, and operations research venues, contribute to open-source software, and collaborate with graduate students.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field by the start date. Preferred experience includes sequential decision-making under uncertainty, planning, machine learning, strong software engineering, and top-venue publications or deployment of research systems in real-world settings.

This is an initial one-year, fixed-term appointment with possible renewal subject to performance and funding. The salary range is $70,000–$75,000, commensurate with experience and internal alignment, with benefits. Applications should include a CV, cover letter, two reference names, and a research statement. For full consideration, apply by August 10, 2026.
