About this position

Open Postdoctoral Position at Stanford University

A postdoctoral fellow is sought for a project led by Prof. Marc Lipsitch in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine, Stanford School of Medicine, with co-advising by Dr. Mathew Kiang, Assistant Professor of Epidemiology. The work sits at the intersection of infectious disease modeling, causal inference, behavior change, and the evaluation of nonpharmaceutical interventions for COVID-19 outcomes.

The project includes developing a rigorous causal framework for assessing intervention effects with a well-defined counterfactual, applying the framework to state- and county-level data from the United States, comparing results with recent published analyses, and studying how aggregation, outcome definitions, and other analytic choices affect findings. The fellow will also help develop and implement computational models of transmission dynamics under different interventions to assess identifiability using multiple data-analytic approaches.

The team is looking for candidates with strong quantitative training and interest in one or more of the following: causal inference, population-level interventions, interference, behavior change in response to policy or external events, and computational modeling. The posting specifically notes that the ideal fellow may come from epidemiology, statistics, biostatistics, machine learning, data science, or another quantitative field.

This is a 2-year postdoctoral appointment with a start date of October 1, 2026. Compensation is at the Stanford University required minimum for postdoctoral scholars; the FY27 minimum base pay is $79,056. The post does not indicate a deadline.

To apply, email Marc Lipsitch with a statement of research interests, a CV, and the names and contact information for three referees.
