About this position
The Kaoud Laboratory in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to study how TRPM7 integrates ion-channel and kinase activities to regulate cellular signaling and cancer cell plasticity.
The project offers complementary research pathways. A protein biochemistry-focused fellow may use recombinant protein expression and purification, molecular cloning and mutagenesis, biochemical assays, and structural and biophysical approaches, including cryo-electron microscopy, to investigate TRPM7 channel–kinase regulation. A molecular and cell biology-focused fellow may examine TRPM7-dependent cellular and nuclear signaling and channel function using molecular and cellular biology, patch-clamp electrophysiology, and proteomics or phosphoproteomics.
Training in complementary techniques will be tailored to the fellow’s background and interests. Research opportunities include learning patch-clamp electrophysiology and working with patient-derived cancer organoid and animal models. The fellow will contribute to experimental design, data analysis and interpretation, manuscript preparation, scientific presentations, and grant development, while also having opportunities to mentor graduate, professional, and undergraduate students.
The fellow will join a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment with investigators and research cores in the Center for Molecular Interactions in Cancer Research and the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute. Scientific and career development mentoring, together with resources from the UAMS Postdoctoral Society, will support progression toward research independence and broader biomedical innovation.
