About this position

The University of Hong Kong is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Department of Real Estate and Construction within the Faculty of Architecture. The department has an international research and teaching profile in real estate and construction, with particular strength in the built environment.

The postdoctoral researcher will work on a project in urban entrepreneurship, developing mathematical models of the relationships among start-ups, property developers and urban planners within a spatial-equilibrium framework. The project combines urban economics, real estate economics and computational modelling to investigate how these actors interact across urban space.

The appointee will apply mathematical and computational modelling techniques, contribute to data collection and analysis, and assist with the preparation of research reports. The role offers an opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary team led by Professor Kelvin Wong, Dr Alex Shi and Dr Jintao Ke. Their expertise spans real estate economics, urban economics and transportation engineering, supporting collaboration across the Department of Real Estate and Construction and the Department of Civil Engineering.

The position is suited to a researcher interested in urban systems, spatial equilibrium, equilibrium sorting, mathematical economics and data-driven analysis in the built environment.

Funding details

This is a full-time, temporary one-year postdoctoral appointment, with possible renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, along with annual leave, medical benefits and free access to on-campus gyms and libraries.

What's required

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in applied mathematics, urban economics, data science or a related subject from a world-leading university. A research background in mathematical and computational modelling is required. Preference will be given to applicants with specialised skills in calculus, spatial equilibrium models and equilibrium sorting models. An outstanding publication record and research project experience are advantageous.
