About this position

Postdoctoral Fellowship at Design++ at ETH Zurich in Zurich, Switzerland.

This is a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in the Center for Augmented Computational Design in Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) and urban/landscape planning. The fellowship supports research at the intersection of Architecture, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Urban Planning, and related fields, with a strong emphasis on Artificial Intelligence, Extended Reality (XR), Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Mixed Reality, robotics, simulation, and optimization.

Research themes include AI-enhanced design and planning, XR-augmented workflows for creating/building/inspection, seamless digital processes, and intelligent collaborative project delivery. The program aims to bridge research and practice in the built environment, with impact goals such as improving resource efficiency, reducing carbon emissions, and increasing productivity.

Fellows will be co-mentored by two ETH professors from two different departments, with at least one belonging to the Design++ Faculty Network. The fellowship is made possible through a strategic partnership with Halter Group AG, and fellows are expected to share quarterly progress updates, deliver mid-term and final presentations/reports, and engage with the Design++ community. Teaching and other duties may be assigned up to 25%.

Eligibility highlights: PhD completed, or to be completed within 10 months of the deadline for a start date no later than September 2027. Applicants should show scientific excellence and submit an innovative research proposal with strong fit to Design++ goals. Experience in AI/ML, XR, robotics, simulation, optimization, publications/awards, and industry collaboration are advantageous.

Funding: two-year ETH postdoc contract under ETH regulations; salary follows the standard for ETH postdocs. The post also mentions family and wellbeing benefits such as childcare support, paid parental leave, and vacation entitlement.

Application window: call opens 2026-08-28 and deadline is 2026-11-01. Shortlist interviews are planned for December 2026, decisions in January 2027, and the start date is by September 2027.
