About this position

ETH Zurich’s Design++ Center for Augmented Computational Design in Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) is offering a postdoctoral fellowship focused on AI, extended reality (XR), robotics, simulation, optimization, and related computational methods for the built environment.

The fellowship is part of a strategic partnership with Halter Group AG and will fund two two-year postdoc positions. Fellows will be co-mentored by two ETH professors from two different departments, with at least one professor belonging to the Design++ Faculty Network. The aim is to bridge research and practice and create impact in architecture, civil engineering, urban planning, landscape planning, and construction.

Example research directions include AI-enhanced design and planning, XR-augmented workflows for creating/building/inspecting, seamless digital processes with visual analytics and LLM-enabled workflows, and intelligent collaborative project delivery. Both foundational and applied proposals are welcome, especially those that improve resource efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, or increase productivity.

Eligibility: applicants must have a PhD completed, or be able to complete it within 10 months of the deadline, with a start date no later than September 2027. The post seeks highly motivated fellows with scientific excellence and a strong, innovative research proposal. Experience in AI/ML, XR, robotics, simulation, optimization, publications/awards, and industry collaboration are advantageous.

Funding: the position is a two-year ETH postdoc contract under ETH regulations, with salary following the standard ETH postdoc scale. The fellowship also offers access to Design++ labs and ETH-wide seminars, schools, and workshops, plus opportunities to collaborate with Halter AG and its sister companies.

Application: submit a 2-page CV, 1–2 page research statement, 1-page motivation letter, two reference letters from prior supervisors, one support letter from the two co-hosting professors, and degree transcripts. Applications are accepted only via ETH’s online portal. The call opens 2026-08-28 and the deadline is 2026-11-01.
