About this position
McGill University in Montréal, Québec, Canada, is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow for a project on long-term freshwater community and ecosystem dynamics using sedimentary DNA (sedDNA).
The project will use metagenomic analyses of lake sediment records to reconstruct past food-web dynamics and quantify shifts in ecosystem functions in Quebec lakes. Sedimentary DNA and paleolimnology enable the study of organisms that may not leave subfossils and support broader investigations of freshwater ecological interactions.
The successful candidate should have expertise in metagenomic bioinformatics. Experience with paleoecological methods is an asset. Applicants must hold a PhD in a relevant field by the anticipated start date and be no more than three years post-PhD, excluding career leaves. The position is expected to begin in winter 2027, with samples already available and a rapid launch anticipated.
Subject to satisfactory performance, the fellowship is funded for two years and provides a salary of at least $55,000 per year plus McGill University benefits.
To apply, submit a single PDF containing your CV, three representative publications, and the names and contact information of three references. Name the file sedDNA_lastname.firstname.pdf and email it to [email protected]. Applications will be reviewed from November 9, 2026, until a suitable candidate is found.
