About this position
The National Research Council Canada is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in Low-Carbon Concrete Materials for a two-year term in Ottawa, Canada, within the Construction organizational unit.
The project, Engineered Recycled Glass as a Supplementary Cementitious Material for Low Carbon, High Performance Concrete — Stabilizing the Supply Chain in Canada, will investigate ground recycled glass as a scalable supplementary cementitious material. The research supports cement decarbonization and circular economy objectives while addressing the shrinking supply of conventional supplementary cementitious materials.
The fellow will design and conduct experimental research on hydration kinetics, pozzolanic reactivity, fresh and hardened concrete performance, durability, and long-term behavior. The project also includes life-cycle assessment and techno-economic assessment. Fellows work in NRC laboratories under the direct supervision of an NRC researcher and collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams.
Applicants should hold a recent PhD in Civil Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Cement Chemistry, or a closely related field, or expect to complete the degree within six months of appointment. Relevant experience in cement chemistry, cementitious materials, concrete testing, analytical characterization, durability, statistical analysis, modeling, and peer-reviewed research is expected.
The appointment offers a salary of $83,985–$116,641, benefits, and a travel fund. Applications require a resume, one-page statement of interest, PhD transcript, and publication list. The closing date is January 7, 2027, at 23:59 Eastern Time. Fellows may be citizens of any country, although preference is given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.

Significant experience is required in cementitious materials research, including cement chemistry, hydration mechanisms, supplementary cementitious materials, concrete performance evaluation, and/or low-carbon concrete technologies. Applicants should have experience with research planning and management, laboratory investigations, data analysis, technical reports, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications; laboratory experimentation and analytical characterization of cementitious materials and concrete; durability assessment, deterioration mechanisms, service-life methodologies, and performance-based testing; experimental design and statistical analysis; and multidisciplinary teamwork. English is required, and successful candidates must obtain Reliability Status clearance involving five years of background verification. Applicants should submit a resume, a maximum one-page statement of interest, a PhD transcript, and a publication list; three recommendation letters may be requested later.
