About this position

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral Flatiron Research Fellow position at the Center for Computational Mathematics (CCM) in the Flatiron Institute, Simons Foundation. This is an onsite postdoctoral opportunity based in New York City, United States, with an anticipated start date between July 2027 and October 2027.

The fellowship is designed for researchers working in interdisciplinary computational science. CCM seeks applicants in active areas including numerical analysis (partial differential equations, integral equations, fast algorithms, spectral and high-order methods), machine learning (optimization, learning theory, probabilistic modeling, deep learning, high-dimensional data analysis, scientific applications), statistical methodology, modeling, and inference, computational biophysics and imaging (cryo-electron microscopy, molecular dynamics, structural biology), and high performance computing and open source software libraries.

Fellows are initially appointed for two years, renewable for a third year based on performance. They are mentored by one or more CCM research scientists, encouraged to pursue an independent research program, collaborate across Flatiron Institute centers, participate in seminars/workshops/conferences, and mentor students through summer internships. The position includes a $95,000 annual salary, a generous travel and research budget, access to scientific computing resources, and possible subsidized housing near the institute.

Eligibility: a Ph.D. in a relevant field is required, along with the ability to conduct original and outstanding research independently and collaboratively, and strong oral and written communication skills.

Application materials: CV with publication list and software links if relevant, a research statement (preferably no more than 4 pages), and three confidential letters of recommendation. Applicants must also enter the name of a CCM research scientist who could serve as a mentor or collaborator.

Deadline: applications for positions beginning in 2027 are reviewed starting in late fall 2026 on a rolling basis; for full consideration, materials including letters should be received by 2026-11-15.

How to apply: submit the application through Interfolio using the provided portal. If you believe a joint position with another Flatiron center is appropriate, indicate this in your research statement and apply to both centers.
