About this position
The Department of Supramolecular Polymer Systems at the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to work on polymer self-assembly and microfluidic preparation of functional polymer nano- and microsystems. The project sits at the intersection of controlled microfluidic formulation, supramolecular polymer chemistry, and the design of responsive colloidal structures with potential biomedical relevance.
The successful researcher will independently plan and execute experimental work on the preparation of polymer nano- and microparticles, with emphasis on microfluidic methods such as nanoprecipitation and controlled mixing. The project also covers the study of self-assembled systems including micelles and polymer vesicles, together with materials that respond to pH, temperature, or chemical conditions. A key part of the work is understanding how polymer composition and processing conditions influence structure, stability, permeability, and the release behavior of encapsulated compounds.
Research activities include microfluidic formulation and process control, preparation and modification of polymer dispersions, particle sizing and distribution analysis, colloidal stability measurements, and physicochemical characterization. The project further uses imaging and structural tools such as TEM, microscopy, and scattering methods, plus spectroscopy as appropriate, and includes assessment of model-compound release and collaboration on biological evaluation of the prepared systems.
The postdoctoral researcher will also contribute to experimental planning, data interpretation, publication of results in peer-reviewed journals, participation in national and international projects, and presentation of findings at domestic and international conferences.
The work is based at the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry in Prague, within an active research environment focused on polymer self-assembly, structure-property relationships, and biomedical applications of soft and colloidal polymer materials.

What's required
A completed Ph.D. or equivalent in Chemistry, Macromolecular Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Materials Science, Biomedical Nanotechnology or a related discipline by the starting date is required. Applicants should have demonstrable hands-on experience with microfluidic preparation of nano- or microsystems, nanoprecipitation, or comparable controlled-formulation methods, along with knowledge of polymer self-assembly, colloidal systems and their physicochemical characterization. A strong publication record appropriate to the career stage, the ability to prepare scientific manuscripts independently, international experience such as a stay abroad or participation in international conferences, very good spoken and written English, and a creative, proactive, independent yet collaborative approach are expected. Experience with stimuli-responsive polymers, polymer drug carriers, or evaluation under biologically relevant conditions is an advantage.
