About this position
The University of Montpellier is offering a 15-month postdoctoral position in the Charles Gerhardt Institute of Montpellier (ICGM, UMR 5253), within the Balard Chemistry Cluster. The position sits in the Department of Materials Chemistry, Nanostructures, and Materials for Energy and is embedded in the Energy Conversion group, working in connection with the CHIMENE project.
The project focuses on the development of non-noble metal electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), with particular attention to catalytic activity and long-term durability. The recruited researcher will also contribute to the development and characterization of electrodes and membrane electrode assemblies (MEA) for proton exchange membrane electrolysis.
Research activities include the synthesis of non-noble metal-based catalysts such as doped metal oxide nanoparticles, physico-chemical and electrochemical characterization of nanocatalysts, preparation of electrodes incorporating the catalysts, and in situ characterization of electrodes and MEAs using analytical and electrochemical methods.
The post is based in Montpellier, France, at a major chemistry and energy materials research environment with expertise in materials chemistry, physico-chemistry, interface science, and solid-state chemistry. The post is especially suitable for candidates with a strong background in materials science, inorganic chemistry, and electrochemistry.
Eligibility requirements include a PhD or equivalent, strong motivation, the ability to work independently, and good English communication skills; French is an advantage. The position offers a net monthly salary of €2,200 to €2,380. Applications must be submitted by 20 August 2026.
