This postdoctoral position is based in the Institute of Zoology, General Ecology research group at the University of Cologne and is part of the project “The Rhine Floodplain – a Biogeochemically Coupled System under Stress.” The project examines how altered hydrology shapes floodplain sediment dynamics, biodiversity, food webs, microbial activity, and greenhouse gas emissions. The successful researcher will develop a mechanistic framework connecting hydrological drivers with biotic, sedimentary,...

About this position

The University of Cologne is offering a postdoctoral position in the General Ecology Research Group within the Institute of Zoology, led by Professor Patrick Fink.

The project, “The Rhine Floodplain – a Biogeochemically Coupled System under Stress,” investigates the Rhine floodplain as an interconnected environmental system. The research links hydrology, sediment dynamics, biodiversity and greenhouse gas emissions to understand how floodplain processes respond to environmental stress.

The successful researcher will contribute to interdisciplinary floodplain research involving hydrological analysis, biogeochemistry, ecology and physical geography. The project offers a research environment focused on understanding interactions between water movement, sediments, biological communities and climate-relevant greenhouse gas fluxes.
