About this position
EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) is recruiting for a postdoctoral position in microfluidics, RNA sequencing, cell biology, and T-cell expansion within the Laboratory of Biomedical Microfluidics (LBMM). The project focuses on highly multiplexed RNAseq-based screening to identify optimal protocols for rapid expansion of cancer-specific, autologous TILs for clinical application.
The work is highly translational and combines custom microfluidic platforms, miniaturized T-cell expansion assays, feeder cells, NGS library preparation, and data analysis with support from a bioinformatics facility. The lab collaborates closely with the group of Prof. George Coukos and operates both on the EPFL campus and in the AGORA cancer research center, with access to patient material and clinical partners in Europe and the US.
Applicants should have a primary background in cell biology and next generation sequencing. Hands-on experience in these areas is expected, and knowledge of T-cell expansion and therapy is important. Experience with droplet microfluidics or 10X Genomics is helpful but not mandatory. Strong motivation for technology development and good communication skills are also highlighted.
This is a full-time employment contract (100%) for 1 year, renewable. Applications must be submitted through the online platform only. Required documents include a brief cover letter, a CV with publication list, a research statement, and contact details for three referees.
For further information, contact Prof. Christoph Merten at [email protected].

What's required
Applicants should have primary training in cell biology and next generation sequencing. Hands-on experience in cell biology and NGS is required, with good knowledge of T-cell expansion and therapy. Experience in droplet-microfluidics, including commercial platforms such as 10X Genomics, is beneficial but not absolutely crucial. Strong motivation for tech development and good communication skills are expected; prior microfluidics experience is advantageous but not required.
How to apply
Apply only through the online platform. Submit a brief cover letter (PDF, up to 2 pages), a CV with publication list, a research statement (PDF, up to 3 pages), and contact details for 3 referees.
