About this position

Postdoctoral position in Plant Evolutionary Genomics and Pangenomics at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Uppsala, Sweden.

The Yant Lab is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to help develop the first Swedish-focused European ash (Fraxinus excelsior) pangenome. The project combines population genomics, graph-based pangenomics, structural variant discovery, GWAS, genotype-environment association, and evolutionary genomics to understand disease resistance and local adaptation across Europe.

The work is funded by a Formas grant and is connected to forest restoration and conservation efforts for ash dieback. The successful candidate will work with long-read genome assemblies, population-scale sequencing, and computational genomic approaches, and will collaborate with SLU campuses, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and other European partners.

Eligibility highlights: PhD in botany, evolutionary biology, genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, plant biology, or a related field; strong publication record; ability to conduct independent research; experience with Python, Linux, HPC, and population genomics is expected. Long-read sequencing and plant genomics experience are advantageous. Excellent English is required, and recent PhD graduates are preferred.

Employment: temporary appointment for 24 months with possible extension, full-time. Deadline: 31 August 2026. Start date: 1 November 2026.

How to apply: submit your application via the SLU recruitment portal using the vacancy page and reference number SLU.ua.2026.2.5.1-2247.
