About this position
A two-year postdoctoral position is available at the Interdisciplinary Research Institute of Grenoble (IRIG), CEA Grenoble, France, working on the theory and modeling of silicon/germanium electron and hole spin qubits.
The project focuses on developing and applying analytical and numerical approaches to understand and support Si/SiGe and Ge/SiGe spin-qubit devices. The successful candidate will work with the TB_Sim platform, which combines atomistic tight-binding and multi-band k·p methods to model realistic qubit structures down to the atomic scale.
Research topics include structural and electronic properties of Si/SiGe and Ge/SiGe quantum dots, strain inhomogeneities, valley splittings, spin manipulation and readout, intrinsic and synthetic spin-orbit fields, exchange interactions in 1D and 2D spin-qubit arrays, sensitivity to noise and disorder, and shuttling/transport of spins.
The position is part of the European SPINS project, aimed at developing pilot lines for spin-qubit technologies. The research environment brings together more than 40 people with expertise in design, fabrication, characterization, and modeling of spin qubits, along with related areas such as cryo-electronics, quantum algorithms, and quantum error correction. The postdoctoral researcher will also interact with SPINS partners in Europe, including Delft and IMEC.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Quantum, Condensed Matter, or Solid-State Physics, or a closely related area, and should have good English proficiency. The position starts no later than 1 April 2027 and is open until filled. Interested candidates should email their CV, publication list, and motivation letter to Yann-Michel Niquet, and arrange for two recommendation letters.
The institution is located in Grenoble, Isère, France, at CEA Grenoble, with additional information available from the laboratory and institutional web pages listed in the posting.
